Asthma & Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) : Bronchial asthma is a chronic airway disorder. It is characterized by acute shortness of breath, typically occurring at night or in the early morning hours, cough, wheezing, and a feeling of tightness in the chest. These might also occur after physical exercise.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a poorly reversible disease of the lungs characterized by airflow limitation. Persistent cough, breathing difficulty, wheezing, and chest tightness are common symptoms.
In Ayurveda, Asthma and COPD come under Swasa & Kasa. Ayurveda manages asthma as a Kapha and Pitta dominant disease, and COPD as a vata dominant one. Asthma can be treated with purificatory treatments like vamana(emesis) virechana (purgation), herbal decoctions, rejuvenative medicines, mild yoga and regular pranayama. COPD needs samana or palliative care as well as rejuvenation.
Sinusitis: Sinusitis is an inflammation of the nose and the paranasal sinuses characterised by blockage/congestion; discharge, facial pain/pressure etc.
Ayurveda treats sinusitis with detox like nasyam, medicines to keep the channels clean and normalize the vitiated doshas.
Allergic Rhinitis: Allergic Rhinitis is an inflammation disorder of the nose also known as hay fever. Common symptoms are, running nose, sneezing, nasal itching & nasal congestion. It is usually triggered by domestic allergens as mites, domestic animals, insects or of plant origin; common outdoor allergens include pollens and mould.
Ayurveda treats this disorder with measures to improve immunity and to reduce the metabolic toxins of the body as well as the hypersensitivity. Treatments like Nasya, dhoomapana and preventive measures like pranayama help control this condition.
Tonsillitis: Tonsillitis is the inflammation of the tonsils characterized by sore throat, swollen and red tonsils, difficulty swallowing etc.
Ayurveda believes that the cause of these frequent inflammations is lack of proper immunity and accumulation of metabolic toxic wastes in the body. Elimination of these factors can help in resolving the condition.
